There was some good news for fans of the Indian cricket team as wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant played his first full game in 2022 after his car accident. The elections are expected to be held in April and May and this is the main reason why the schedule of the 17th edition of the IPL has not been revealed yet.

Speaking to PTI, Dhumal said that initially, only the schedule for the first 15 days will be announced and the roster for the remaining games will be decided after the announcement of the general election dates.

The Lok Sabha election dates are expected to be announced early next month.

“We are looking at the start of the tournament on March 22. We are working closely with government agencies and we will be the first to release the preliminary schedule. The entire tournament will be held in India,” Dhumal said.

Only in 2009, the IPL was, entirely, held abroad (South Africa), while the 2014 edition was held partially in the UAE due to general elections.

However, in 2019 the tournament was held in India despite the elections.

Keeping in mind that the T20 World Cup will start within a few days of the conclusion of this rich league, the final is likely to be held on May 26.

India will play its first World Cup match against Ireland in New York on June 5, while the ICC showpiece will begin on June 1 with the clash between USA and Canada.

As is the norm, the opening match of the IPL will be played between last year’s finalists, in this case winners Chennai Super Kings, and runners-up Gujarat Titans.

The player auction for the 2024 season was held in December last year and Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc became the most expensive player in the history of the league after he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 24.75 crore.
