Renowned author and TV personality Richard Osman has expressed his delight at being appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
The recognition was announced in the New Year Honors list, which celebrates his significant contribution to literature and broadcasting, and Osman said he was “thrilled”.
Osman, 55, is widely praised for his best-selling books thursday murder club series, a series of heartwarming crime novels that have captivated readers around the world.
The best-selling book, about a group of friends who investigate a murder in a sleepy English village, was recently adapted into a Netflix film with a cast that includes Dame Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie and Sir Ben Kingsley.
His fifth book in the series, impossible wealthpublished earlier this year.
Osman’s literary career flourished, but he first rose to prominence as a co-presenter of the BBC One game show. meaningless.
After 13 years with the project, he left in 2022 to devote more time to writing.

Born in Billericay, Essex, Osman began his television career after studying politics and sociology at Cambridge University.
He worked behind the camera for two decades, becoming creative director of UK-based production company Endemol, where he worked on projects such as prize island. His extensive production credits include To deal or not to deal, 8 out of 10 cats, Whose line is it?, Destroy them alland 24 hour test.
He also created and produced the Channel 4 comedy series boyz unlimitedA satirical drama about the music industry, starring a young James Corden.

In 2020, Osman announced his departure from Endemol and said on social media: “I have been working at Endemol since I was 29 years old, but it is time for me to move on. I will still do Pointless/House Of Games and work with the talented people there. But also look forward to creating new shows with new people. It has been a wonderful 20 years and I will miss it very much.”
Most recently, the TV star used his industry insights as co-host The rest is entertainment Podcast, with journalist Marina Hyde.
The pair delved into various showbiz stories, including allegations against former MasterChef host Gregg Wallace, and interviewed figures including Harry Potter director Chris Columbus and music mogul Simon Cowell.
Osman also opened up about his personal struggles, specifically his addiction to food.
He described it as a “difficult journey” to share publicly, but noted that the more he tried, the happier he became.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4 desert island discsHe revealed: “Since I was nine years old, I have thought about food and the impact it has had on me every day of my life. I know it will stay with me for the rest of my life.”
