Commuters faced traffic jams in Central and New Delhi on Wednesday due to the full-dress rehearsal of the Republic Day parade. With several restrictions and diversions imposed for the smooth conduct of the Republic Day celebrations, traffic movement is expected to remain affected for two more days.

Delhi Police on Wednesday issued an advisory on traffic arrangements in the national capital. According to the advisory, the Republic Day parade will start from Vijay Chowk at 10.30 am and move towards the Red Fort ground.

A related ceremony will also take place at the National War Memorial, India Gate at 9.30 am. Police have imposed extensive traffic arrangements and restrictions on the parade route.

  • The advisory said the parade will pass through Vijay Chowk, Dutta Path, C-Hexagon, Subhash Chandra Bose Square, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg and Red Fort.

  • C-Hexagon-India Gate will remain closed for traffic from 9.15 am on Thursday till the parade crosses Tilak Marg.
  • It said that traffic will not be allowed on Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Netaji Subhash Marg from 10.30 am on Thursday.
  • Only cross-traffic will be allowed depending on the speed of the parade. The traffic advisory suggests alternative routes that motorists can follow.
  • The advisory said that the pilgrims can take Madrasa, Lodhi Road T-Point to Aurobindo Marg, AIIMS Chowk, Ring Road-Dhaula Kuan, Vande Mataram Marg and Shankar Road to reach the temple route.
  • Flying of sub-conventional aerial platforms such as paragliders, paramotors, hang gliders, UAVs, UAS, microlight aircraft, remotely piloted aircraft, hot air balloons, small-sized powered aircraft, quadcopters or parajumping from aircraft is prohibited. Delhi till February 15, it said.

  • To travel to Old Delhi Railway Station from South Delhi, the advisory urges people to use Ring Road, Ashram Chowk, Sarai Kale Khan, Rajghat, Chowk Yamuna Bazar, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chhatta Rail and Kauria Bridge. .
  • Interstate buses going to Shivaji Stadium from Ghaziabad will have to take National Highway-24, Ring Road and terminate at Bhairon Road. Buses coming from National Highway-24 will take right turn on Road No. 56 and terminate at ISBT-Anand Vihar.
  • Buses from Ghaziabad to Wazirabad Bridge will be diverted from Mohan Nagar towards Bhopra Chungi. No heavy transport/light goods vehicles will be allowed to enter Delhi from other states from 11 pm on Thursday till the end of the parade.
  • The advisory said that these vehicles will be allowed to ply between ISBT-Sarai Kale Khan and ISBT-Kashmiri Gate only on the Ring Road from 7.30 am to 1.30 pm on Friday. It said that people are requested to make maximum use of public transport to reach the duty path.

Advice for metro passengers

  • “Those who have genuine e-invitation cards or e-tickets to attend the Republic Day celebrations will be issued coupons on showing government issued identity cards at the stations, which will be valid for exiting the Central Secretariat and Industry. Will be. “There are only building stations to reach the duty path,” a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) statement said.
  • The same coupon will be valid for return journey from both these stations. Passengers with invitation cards marked for enclosures 1 to 9 and V1 and V2 should deboard at Udyog Bhawan.
  • “Similarly, those marked for enclosures 10 to 24 and VN (with invitation cards) are advised to deboard at the Central Secretariat. Traffic advisory by Gurugram Police

Along with no entry of heavy vehicles in Delhi on Republic Day, the traffic police in Gurugram has also issued an advisory for heavy and medium vehicles in the city.

  • As per the traffic advisory, all goods vehicle transporters have been informed that from 5 pm on January 25 to 1:30 pm on January 26, medium and heavy goods vehicles will not be allowed to enter Gurugram and Delhi.
  • In Gurugram, this year Republic Day events will be held at five venues – Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Gurugram Martyrs and Freedom Fighters Memorial Stadium Nakhdola, Government Senior Secondary School (Boys), Pataudi, Government Model Sanskriti Senior Secondary School, Sushant Lok and Tau.   • Gurugram Police spokesperson Subhash Boken said that Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in the city. He said that during this period, there will be a complete ban on the use of drones, aircraft, gliders, air balloons, kites and micro lights in Gurugram till January 26.

Traffic advisory by Noida Police

The Gautam Buddh Nagar police has also issued a traffic advisory, cautioning commuters about possible diversions on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway on January 25.

  • However, emergency vehicles will be exempted from any diversion, police said.
  • The traffic police have suggested alternative routes for commuters, including those bound for Delhi, with diversions planned in view of an event in nearby Bulandshahr district.

  • There will be a diversion from Mahamaya flyover towards Sector 37 for the passengers going from Kalindi Border to Dalit Prerna Sthal Parking Tiraha towards DND/Chilla. This traffic will be able to reach the destination from Sector 37 via DSC route, MP-03 route.
  • Traffic going from GIP Mall towards DND via Filmcity flyover will be diverted with a U-turn under the Filmcity flyover.
  • According to the advisory, this traffic will be able to go towards the destination through DSC route and elevated route. Those going towards Delhi via DND flyover from Rajnigandha side will be diverted from Rajnigandha Chowk.

  • “Diversions on the two major expressways can be done only when necessary. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Kumar Yadav told news agency PTI that the diversion has been announced to ensure that passengers opt for alternative routes and avoid any inconvenience to them.
