One in two (50 per cent) Indian users pick up their phones without knowing why they turned on their smartphones, a new report released on Monday revealed.
According to the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), a global management consulting firm, the average smartphone user picks up the phone 70 to 80 times a day.
Kanika Sanghi, head of Customer Insights Center India, said: “In our research, we found that around 50 per cent of the time, consumers don’t know why they pick up the phone – they just do it out of habit. .”
The findings in the report are based on actual click/interaction data from over 1,000 users and in-depth consumer interviews conducted across India.
Additionally, the report found that 45-50% of the time consumers have a very clear idea of the task to be completed, and 5-10% of the time consumers have partial clarity.
Nimisha Jain, Senior Partner and Managing Director, said: “Smartphones are evolving, as evidenced by the significant amount of discussion in recent media and industry events on topics such as ‘On-device AI’ or ‘App-less experiences with Gen AI’. development.” Director, BCG.
The report also mentioned that Indian smartphone users prefer streaming video content (short format/long format) as they spend 50-55% of their time on streaming apps while doing social networking (text messages/calls), shopping, searching ( Search) for information about travel, work, hobbies, etc.) and games.
