Report: Pakistan political deadlock continues, alliance talks stalled

Both sides decide to hold meeting on Monday (document)

Islamabad:

According to Pakistan’s “Tribune” report, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had differences in the national elections and failed to reach an agreement on government formation, leading to the continued political deadlock in Pakistan.

The two sides decided to hold a meeting on Monday, which will be the fourth such meeting, to reach consensus on forming a coalition government.

A Liaison and Coordination Committee (CCC) was established to discuss and formalize proposals for the Alliance.

A meeting of the coordination committee between the two sides was held in Islamabad. A joint statement issued after the meeting said the two sides held detailed discussions on government formation.

PPP and PML-N have made significant progress on various issues. However, the two sides did not reach a final resolution at the end of the meeting, the Express Tribune reported.

“Recommendations put forward by both parties were discussed in depth and, while substantial progress was made, further deliberations are required to finalize the matter at hand,” the joint statement said.

The committee members stressed the importance of a strong democratic government for Pakistan’s stability and discussed the need for consensus, The Express Tribune reported.

The PML-N delegation included Ishaq Dar, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Azam Nazir Talal and Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan. Meanwhile, the PPP delegation included Syed Murad Ali Shah, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Saeed Ghani, Nadeem Afzal Chan, Nawab Sanaullah Zehri, Shuja Khan and Sardar Bahadur Khan.

On Tuesday, the PPP said it would support the Muslim League-North to form a minority government at the Centre. Later, a spokesman for the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) said that the party had nominated Shehbaz Sharif as Pakistan’s prime minister, The Tribune reported.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also put forward conditions for supporting the coalition led by Shehbaz Sharif. He said the PPP would support the Muslim League-North Party in electing the Prime Minister of Pakistan. However, it will not become part of the government and he said his party would seek some constitutional positions in return. The two parties established a Contact and Coordination Committee (CCC) to discuss and formalize proposals for the coalition.

Pakistan held its 12th national election on February 8 amid allegations of fraud and the shutdown of mobile phone and internet services.

According to the election results, independent candidates backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won 92 seats. According to Geo News, PML-N is currently in second place with 79 seats, while PPP won 54 seats.

MQM-P has won in 17 constituencies. JUI-F won four seats, PML-Q won three constituencies, while IPP and BNP won two seats each. MWM, National Party, PML-Z, Balochistan People’s Party, Pashtunkhwa People’s Party and Pashtunkhwa National People’s Party won one seat each.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced on Friday that it will serve as the opposition in central and Punjab states, Pakistan News International reported. The decision was taken on the directives issued by PTI founder Imran Khan, who is still lodged in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

PTI leader Mohammad Ali Saif told reporters after a meeting with Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) that the party has decided to hold opposition seats in the National Assembly and Punjab Assembly.

“Many politicians are facing accusations of lust for power but we decided to sit at the center and in the opposition in Punjab despite the fact that if we were given seats based on the votes received, we would have formed the government,” he said, according to international news reports :”In the center. “

Saif further said that Form-45 proved that the PTI-backed candidate had won. However, the results for Form-47 changed. The party is in touch with political parties as per Imran Khan’s orders, he said, adding that a delegation led by Asad Qizer visited the QWP secretariat.
