RCB hires Andy Flower as head coach©X (Twitter)
Royal Challengers Bangalore head coach Andy Flower has left Lucknow Supergiants and decided to sign up for a new challenge in the Indian Premier League (IPL) ahead of the 2024 season. RCB remains one of only four teams to have never won the IPL, and the prospect of becoming a coach and helping the team win its first ever title is quite exciting for Flower. The fact that RCB did not win any trophies was one of the main reasons why the former Zimbabwe cricketer decided to join the team as coach.
“I am very excited about this challenge (joining a team that has not won the IPL title yet),” Flower told Hindustan Times in an interview.
“That was one of the main reasons I wanted to take the job. It gives me a really exciting opportunity to see if we can do something special with RCB. We have a really exciting group of players. I think our team is strong. We have some great experience in the locker room,” he further said.
“We believe that all-rounders will play a very important role in the tournament. The opportunity to win the tournament is right in front of us, but I personally think taking on such a challenge is always an easy route,” Flowers said.
When talking about the team’s offensive style and style of play, Flower said that he hopes the players can show an offensive offensive style to enter the playoffs.
“We want to play a game that we’re proud of. We’re going to attack the game and that will give us a good chance of making the playoffs. Once you advance, then you have a good chance of being in the title. So , we have to take some steps.”
“Our attitude towards training, our determination to perform well, how we come together as a team with a common goal… these will determine how we enjoy the season together.
“So, I think simplifying and breaking down the challenges ahead is a very important process for us,” the RCB coach said.
