Ravi Shastri’s viral comment on fan’s ‘retirement’ poster for James Anderson says “go on a long leave” | cricket news

England fast bowler James Anderson took his 111th first class wicket on Saturday. He achieved this feat by dismissing Indian captain Rohit Sharma on the second day of the ongoing fourth Test in Ranchi. Since making his debut in 2003, Anderson has been a vital cog in England’s Test setup. He is also the all-time wicket taker in Tests among fast bowlers. As Anderson came to bowl on the second day after England were bowled out for 353, the cameraman spotted a spectator who had a special poster dedicated to the England icon.

In the poster, the fan wrote that after 41-year-old Anderson retires from the game, he will start studying.

The poster read, “I will begin studies when James Anderson retires.”

Despite being 41 years old, Anderson shows no signs of slowing down.

Responding to the poster, the former India head coach asked the fan to go on leave, and said that Anderson will not be retiring anytime soon.

Shastri was heard saying on-air, “You have to wait, young man. You are not studying early, go on a long leave. It is not going to happen soon.”

Shastri also praised the longevity of Anderson, who has already served England for more than two decades.

“It’s important to respect and admire a person for his longevity. It’s great to be around for so long and play at the top level,” he said.

Anderson gave early success to England in the first session after England were all out.

However, Shoaib Bashir was the star for England as he dismissed Shubman Gill (38), Rajat Patidar (17) and Ravindra Jadeja (12) in the second session.

Earlier, Joe Root remained unbeaten on 122, as England were bowled out for 353 runs in their first innings.

With the overnight score at 302 for seven, Root and Ollie Robinson completed their century partnership for the eighth wicket to take England ahead.

In the process, Robinson (58 of 96) scored his maiden Test half-century.

On the second day, Jadeja (4/67) took the remaining three wickets of England.

Debutant Akash Deep (3/83) impressed on the first day, while Mohammed Siraj (2/78) took two wickets.

India is leading 2-1 in the five-match Test series.
