Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officer Chhotulal Sharma has been suspended after a viral video showed him slapping a pump attendant at a CNG station on the Ajmer-Bhilwara highway. The incident, which occurred on Diwali, sparked outrage across the state and brought Sharma’s personal life under public scrutiny.

Sharma, who works as assistant director in the Department of Public Service Administrative Reforms and Coordination at Pratapgarh district headquarters, was seen in CCTV footage confronting a pump employee before beating him. In retaliation, the pump attendant slapped the officer. The controversy escalated rapidly and attracted the attention of the police and the public.

According to reports, Sharma’s wife – identified as his second wife Deepika Vyas – later lodged a complaint at Rayala police station in Bhilwara, alleging that a pump employee had sexually assaulted her. She claimed that when her husband intervened, she was assaulted. Acting on the complaint, police initially detained three employees of the fuel station.

However, the incident took a dramatic turn after the video went viral on social media. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma reportedly considered this act a serious breach of conduct by a government official and ordered Sharma’s immediate suspension on Bhai Dooj.

first wife speaks

As the controversy escalated, Sharma’s first wife Poonam Jakhodiya came forward with explosive allegations against him. Speaking to the media, she claimed that Sharma had married another woman without divorcing her legally.

Poonam said that she and Chhotu Lal were married when he was unemployed and she supported the family until he passed the RAS exam almost a decade later. “His behavior completely changed after becoming an officer,” she alleged. “He started torturing me physically and mentally. Other women started visiting our house frequently.”

She further accused Sharma of getting a divorce without her consent and committing fraud by marrying Deepika Vyas. Poonam said she has challenged the “fraudulent divorce” in the Jodhpur High Court.

Poonam also claimed that her husband would “spend time chatting with other women till late night” and would assault her when she confronted him.

investigation underway

The scandal has not only exposed a case of alleged public misconduct, but has also raised questions about Sharma’s personal and professional integrity. Officials have confirmed that Sharma has been suspended pending investigation into both the public incident and the allegations made by his first wife.

Legal experts suggest the case could have wide-ranging administrative and legal ramifications as multiple complaints and testimony emerge.

At present, Sharma is under suspension and is at his residence while the state government reviews the matter.
