Jammu, June 21: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was informed by the top army’s brass on Saturday to start next month to focus on the security areas prevalent in Jammu and Kashmir, anti -terrorism operations and Amarnath Yatra, the officials said.
He said that commanding officers of all units, including General Upendra Dwivedi, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Army, Northern Command, Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma and other senior officers attended the meeting at the Northern Command Headquarters in Udhampur.
Singh reached Udampur headquarters of the Northern Command on a two -day visit on Friday and led the International Day of the Yoga ceremony of the Armed Forces on Saturday morning, practiced breathing with various asanas and 2,500 soldiers.
Officials said that after the yoga session, the brass of the top army informed the Defense Minister on the security situation prevalent in the federal area.
Briefing focused on security on the border areas as well as the anti-terrorist operations in Hunterland, especially forest areas. It also covered the security arrangements made for the annual 38-day Amarnath Yatra starting in South Kashmir Himalayas on 3 July.
The army is part of the multi-level security arrangements created for the smooth conduct of the journey, especially to comb the forests around the twin tracks-the traditional 48-km Pahgam route in the Anantnag district and 14 km short but 14 km short but the Stper Baltal route in the Jamu-Singar National Highstall in Gandalbal district.
