Jaipur, Oct 25 (IANS) Five employees, including a departmental employee and four contractual employees, were affected by the leakage of hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) gas at the Rawatbhata Heavy Water Plant on Saturday.
Two of them have been referred to Kota for advanced medical treatment, while three are receiving care at the nuclear power plant hospital.
According to General Manager P.Sathish, the incident occurred when the employees were working in the field. All the affected workers were immediately taken to the hospital.
The condition of Dharmendra Lohar, son of Mohan Lohar, a contract worker from Bhainsrodgarh, is said to be critical, who has been referred to Kota Hospital.
On receiving information about the incident, DSP Kamal Prasad Meena, Tehsildar Vivek Garasia, Police Station Officer Raisal Singh and other officers reached the spot.
Officials confirmed that the situation is now under control, although the exact cause of the gas leak is still being investigated.
SDM Kriti Vyas said, “I spoke to the general manager, who told me that two people have been injured and are undergoing treatment.”
Meanwhile, a soldier posted at Tower No. 11 reportedly suffered eye irritation and swelling due to exposure.

At present, no official statement has been issued by the plant administration or district authorities.
Further investigation was ongoing till the time of writing the report.
