Jaipur, October 24 (IANS) The Bhajan Lal government of Rajasthan has issued orders for the appointment of administrators for Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota municipal corporations.
According to the notification of the Local Self Government Department, the tenure of the municipal corporations in these three cities will end on November 9.
After the expiry of the tenure, the concerned Divisional Commissioner will take charge as the Administrator until the formation of a new elected Board. The move is aimed at ensuring continuity in urban administration, although officials anticipate that many public services may face disruption.
Jaipur Divisional Commissioner has been appointed administrator for both the municipal corporations of Jaipur Heritage and Jaipur Greater.
Similarly, divisional commissioners of Jodhpur and Kota have been designated as administrators of their respective municipal corporations.
The government has also decided to integrate the administrative functions of the municipal corporations in these cities to increase efficiency and coordination. This arrangement will continue till new elections and formation of new Municipal Corporation Board.
With the end of the tenure of the Municipal Corporation Board, the tenure of the Mayor and councilors will also end. As a result, vital public services – like ration card amendments, domicile and caste certificates, income certificates, RTE verification and police verification – are likely to be affected. Previously, these services were run smoothly through local councillors.
In their absence, citizens may now need to seek support from MPs, MLAs or gazetted officers, potentially leading to delays and additional procedural hurdles.
Officials said that the state government is planning to conduct elections under the ‘one state, one election’ policy.
Under this initiative, administrators are currently working in many urban bodies of the state. The tenure of the boards in all the urban bodies of the state will end by February 2026. There is a possibility of simultaneous elections in all the bodies.
According to sources in the Directorate of Autonomous Governance, the tenure of 50 urban bodies will end in December this year. The tenure of 90 bodies will end in January next year and one body in February.
