There have been a lot of complaints recently about overcrowding on trains. Now, in a disturbing recent incident, a ticketless woman on a train refused to vacate the seat she had forcibly occupied. She got into an argument with a fellow passenger, who repeatedly asked her to leave her seat. At one point, she also claimed that she was a railway employee, based on which she felt she was “entitled” to the seat. The entire incident was caught on camera. X User Shonee Kapoor shared the video on the Weibo site on Friday. The video not only angered social media users but also prompted a response from the Indian Railways.

Captioning the post, Kapoor wrote: “This woman occupied the reserved seat without a ticket. Refusing to get up and arguing with everyone around her. Best use of #women-card.”

The date and location of the incident are unclear. However, the video’s comments section was flooded with a variety of reactions. In response to the video, official passenger support account Railway Seva requested details for further investigation. “We request you to preferably share your journey details (PNR/UTS number) and mobile number with us via DM. You can also raise your concerns directly or call 139 for quick rectification,” Railway Seva wrote.

Northern Railway also responded. “We request you to share your itinerary details (PNR/UTS number)”.

Meanwhile, users took to the comments to ask authorities to adopt stricter rules.

“Some women feel too entitled now for no reason!! This is not what female empowerment is about!!” one user wrote. “Recently I have seen too many videos of multi-ticket passengers harassing passengers who have reserved seats in advance. After watching these, I would rather take a plane/bus than a train.” Another netizen commented.

“Wow, so arrogant to sit in someone else’s seat and not get up and show courtesy when the person who made the reservation asked for it. Admire the patience of the man who requested the seat. This lady must be fined and fired.” Government Job, ” suggested a third user.

“The main reason for this is that there are not enough TCs or staff to minimize these communication issues. Things like this spread like a virus and no one benefits. There should be a system in place for instant checking and verification of seats.” one user said.

Since being shared, the video has been viewed nearly 1 million times.
