Patna, Nov 4 (IANS) Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the Center was trying to divert the attention of youth by promoting short-video content instead of providing employment opportunities.

Addressing a massive Grand Alliance rally in Aurangabad, Rahul Gandhi said, “Narendra Modi comes to Bihar and says data is so cheap that you can watch videos, make reels and use various social media platforms. I want to ask you – do you want to make reels or do you want jobs? Data may be cheap, but who is getting the financial benefit from it? His industrialist friends. Whatever reel you make, the money goes into their pockets. The idea is this. To keep you busy so that you do not raise real questions about jobs, unemployment, paper leaks, education, health or universities.

He further alleged that making the youth addicted to reel is like giving them a new drug.

Rahul Gandhi also cited the state of health infrastructure and claimed that a large number of patients from Bihar travel to Delhi for treatment.

He said, “Every day, two to three thousand people sleep on the footpath near Delhi AIIMS. When I ask where they come from, they say: Bihar. Patients do not go to hospitals in Bihar for treatment; they go there to die.”

Taking aim at the Center over the Agniveer scheme, he said that the government has closed a major avenue of jobs for the youth taking training for army recruitment.

“After four years, Agniveers will be ousted. If they are killed, they will not even get martyr status. Their families will not get support. Earlier, youth from Dalits, Mahadalits, EBC, OBC and other communities used to get jobs in HAL, BHEL, Indian Oil and other PSUs – but PM Modi privatized them and handed them over to his industrialist friends,” said LOP Rahul Gandhi.

He also accused the government of destroying the value of education by allowing paper leaks.

“You can study for years, but it becomes futile because the paper gets leaked a day or two before the exam. If you don’t have contacts or lakhs of rupees in your pocket, you will not succeed,” he said.

Referring to PM Modi’s recent Chhath appearance in Delhi, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi mocked it by calling it a “drama”.

He said, “PM Modi had said he would take a bath in the Yamuna, but clean water pipes were arranged for him. A special pond was made. When the video was leaked, he quietly backed out.”

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi also alleged that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has turned the youth of Bihar into labourers.

“I go to every state – Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh, even Ladakh – and everywhere I find youth from Bihar working as labourers. Nitish Kumar has ruled Bihar for 20 years. He has turned the youth of Bihar into labourers.”

Recalling Bihar’s ancient educational heritage, he said, “Once upon a time, Nalanda University was the best center of education in the world. Students from Japan, Korea, China and England used to come here to study. Today, our students are forced to go abroad – to the United States, England, Japan, China, Korea and even Uzbekistan. This is the history of Bihar, but your government does not want to help you.”

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi further claimed that Nitish Kumar is not running the government independently.

He said, “Nitish Kumar is not in control. The remote is in the hands of the Prime Minister. Whatever PM Modi wants, Nitish Kumar does.”

He said that if the Grand Alliance forms the government, it will represent all sections.

He said, “Our government will be of Dalits, minorities, EBC, OBC and general category poor.”

The Congress leader also alleged that the only way for the NDA to win is through vote theft.

Gandhi said, “Narendra Modi and Amit Shah know they cannot win in Bihar. Their only way is vote theft. They stole Maharashtra, Haryana, Lok Sabha – and now they want to steal Bihar. But the people of Bihar are intelligent. They knew that vote theft is an attack on the Constitution written by BR Ambedkar. If the Constitution is abolished, only Narendra Modi and his industrialist friends will be left.”

He also raised questions on loan waiver to corporates.

“Billions of rupees of industrialists were waived off. Did they waive off the loans of farmers of Bihar?”. he asked.

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi ended his speech with a “guarantee”:

He said, “I will create a world-class university in Bihar, where students from all over the world will come to study. This is my vision for Bihar.”
