New Delhi, Oct 25 (IANS) A major fire incident that broke out in the densely populated Pangal Basti area of Moreh in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district on Saturday was swiftly brought under control following the timely intervention of the Assam Rifles.
The fire, which threatened to engulf nearby residential clusters, commercial establishments and critical public infrastructure, was brought under control before it turned into a large-scale disaster.
Responding immediately to a distress call, a team of 63 personnel of Assam Rifles was sent to the spot.
“Equipped with fire-fighting equipment and trained in disaster response, the troops worked tirelessly in challenging conditions to control the rapidly spreading fire,” an official said.
“Their coordinated efforts, carried out in close collaboration with local authorities, fire services and community members, proved vital in preventing loss of lives and minimizing damage to property,” he said.
The operation also included the evacuation of vulnerable civilians from the danger area.
Assam Rifles personnel provided first aid to those affected by smoke and minor burns and ensured that medical aid was provided at the spot. Their presence and quick action provided much-needed reassurance to the residents of Pangal Basti, many of whom feared for their safety as the fire intensified.
The incident underlined the preparedness and commitment of the Assam Rifles in responding to emergencies beyond its traditional duties.
Their active participation and seamless coordination with civil agencies highlighted the force’s enduring dedication to the security and welfare of the people of the North-East.
