Billionaire Gautam Adani met Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano R Amon to discuss India’s potential in semiconductors, artificial intelligence and technology.

Cristiano Amon is expected to inaugurate the new design center at Ramanujan IT City in Chennai on March 14. The new center is expected to create employment opportunities for up to 1,600 technical professionals in Chennai.

The company proposes to invest Rs 177.3 crore to develop the new center, which will focus on wireless connectivity solutions with an emphasis on innovations that complement Wi-Fi technology.

Last week, the government approved proposals to set up three semiconductor factories as it seeks to position itself as an international powerhouse in chip manufacturing. The approved semiconductor factories also include a giant wafer fab of the Tata Group, with a cumulative investment of 1.26 billion rupees.
