The Russian state news agency Tass said on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Moscow is ready to help find a diplomatic solution for the Iranian nuclear issue.
Kremlin said Putin proposed during a phone call with Netanyahu amid growing tension between Iran and Israel.
The Kremlin Press Service said in a statement, “In the recent increase in the Iranian-Israeli confrontation, Russia has expressed its readiness to assist in every possible way to facilitate a diplomatic solution related to Iran’s nuclear program.”
Phone conversations between Putin and Netanyahu took place between Iran, Israel and the United States in June after a brief military conflict, which raised global concerns over regional stability.
Israel has long opposed Iran’s nuclear activities, even when claimed for civil purposes. It assumes that Tehran can use technology to develop nuclear weapons, the concern shared by the United States.
On 13 June, Israel began a military operation targeting Iranian assets. Iran responded with retaliation. Nine days later, the United States entered the struggle and allegedly attacked three Iranian nuclear sites, said Tass.
Till 24 June, the three countries agreed to ceasefire, but stress is high.
Kremlin said that Moscow supports diplomatic talks and is the only way to resolve the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program. (AI)
