The investigation into the biggest-ever seizure of mephedrone by the Pune police has revealed that the banned drug was smuggled into London through a courier firm in Delhi by hiding it in ready-to-eat food packets, a top official said on Wednesday. Was brought.
Police have so far seized around 1,700 kg of mephedrone from some places in Pune and Delhi. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said eight people have been arrested in this connection and their links are being investigated.
“In the ongoing searches, our team has seized 720 kg of mephedrone in Pune, of which around 600 kg was recovered from a manufacturing unit located in Kurkumbh MIDC area on the Pune-Solapur Road, on the outskirts of the city. “In the operation, 970 kg of Mephedrone has been recovered so far. The estimated value of the total contraband is estimated to be between Rs 3,000 crore and Rs 3,500 crore,” he said.
He said that the name of a courier firm has come to light in the seizures made in Delhi.
Kumar said, “We have come to know that some banned substances hidden in ready-to-eat processed food packets were sent to London through a Delhi-based courier company.” He said that a person of this courier company has been detained. Has been taken in.
Kumar said, the entire quantity of this medicine was being manufactured at the unit located at Kurkumbh MIDC.
He also said that apart from the Delhi and Pune operations, another operation is going on in Sangli, Maharashtra where some quantity of drugs have been seized.
“So far, we have arrested eight people and their role is being investigated. Several teams of Pune Police have been deployed in different parts of the country in connection with the case,” he said.
Kumar said the police had started the investigation with the seizure of mephedrone worth Rs 2 crore, which has now reached about 1,700 kg.
He said, “We have successfully solved the case with national and international implications. Police teams are working hard to destroy the supply chain in the present case.”
