PS5 Slim goes on sale in India from April 5: Check pricing

Sony has announced that the slim version of the PlayStation 5 gaming console, first launched in the US in November last year, will be available in India from April 5. Both the disc and digital versions of the PS5 slim will be available in the country this week, with stock availability at participating retailers confirmed. The PS5 slim is a lighter, thinner version of the original console, retaining much of the PlayStation 5’s design language but featuring a removable optical drive and slightly more storage.

The PlayStation parent company has also confirmed the pricing of the PS5 slim in India, with the console priced at the same price as the existing PS5. The disc version of PS5 slim is priced at Rs 100. 54,990 while the digital version is priced at Rs 54,990. 44,990. Customers who purchase the digital version of the console can purchase the PS5 slim optical drive separately.

The PS5 slim will be available from April 5 across offline and online retailers in the country. Stocks of the new version of the console are available on the Sony ShopatSC website, Amazon, Flipkart, Games The Shop and other participating retailers.

Sony updated the PS5 series last October, announcing a redesigned, slimmer console with essentially the same hardware specifications as the original PS5. These design changes result in an overall smaller form factor, with the PS5 slim reducing the volume by more than 30% and the weight by 24% compared to the standard PS5.

The thin and light version of the PS5 also has slightly larger internal storage, up from the standard PS5’s 825GB custom SSD to 1TB. Customers also have the option of adding an external UHD Blu-ray Disc drive to the PS5 slim Digital Edition console. However, the new version still has the same processing power and graphics capabilities as the original PS5.

Sony is also reportedly preparing to launch a “Pro” version of the PS5 later this year as the current generation of consoles enters the second half of its life cycle. Analysts said in February that the Japanese electronics giant was looking to update the PS5 Pro in preparation for the launch of Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6, which will be available sometime in 2025.

Leaked PS5 Pro specs hint that the updated console will render 45% faster and have three times the computing power of the PS5 – 33.5 teraflops of single-precision computing compared to the PS5’s 10.28 teraflops.
