Glasgow Record store Monorail Music auctioned items passed on by finders on eBay.
Michael Kasparis, the monorail’s online manager, said the trains were purchased by musician Ben Howard.
Kasparis said everyone was watching the auction “like watching the end of a football match”, adding: “The auction started at £900 and then jumped to £1,050 and a second before the end it was £2,050. The final sale price was £2,250.
“We thought we would be really happy if we got to four figures, so this is a pretty amazing result.
“I was a little worried that the joke was going to die, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to die anytime soon.”
Funds raised will be donated to Palestinian Medical Aid to help support Gaza.
Mr Kasparis said: “I was personally a bit concerned that the auction was a bit silly for charity, but we thought if it raised money that was the most important thing.
“It’s a charity we’ve both donated to and we all care deeply about, and when we considered auctioning it off to charity it was a no-brainer.”
