Chandigarh, October 25 (IANS) After purchasing 52.18 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday said that the government is committed to purchasing every grain of the crop.
He said, “Both the central and state governments under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi are working in the interest of farmers. At present, procurement of paddy and millet crops is going on in the state.”
However, CM Saini said that those attempting to “fraud” the government in the name of procurement will not be spared under any circumstances.
The Chief Minister was chairing a high-level review meeting to ensure transparency and smooth functioning of paddy and millet procurement.
Officers from all concerned departments attended the meeting, all Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police joined virtually.
In the meeting, arrangements related to procurement, status of mandis, complaints of farmers and e-procurement system were reviewed.
The Chief Minister clearly said that the government will not compromise with the interests of farmers.
CM Saini directed that in cases where irregularities have been found in e-procurement portal entries, the employees and officers have been suspended.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the government is committed to protecting the earnings of farmers and purchasing every grain of their produce.
Officials said procurement of paddy started on October 22 and is going on smoothly in most of the markets. So far, about 52.18 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been purchased from 2.66 lakh farmers.
About Rs 10,204.98 crore has been transferred to the accounts of farmers. Procurement of millet included 291.10 MT by state agencies and 3.99 lakh MT by private traders.
Officials also reported some complaints about irregularities in paddy coming from other states and gate pass scanning, on which the government has taken a strict stance.
Physical verification of rice mills is being done in Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra and Kaithal, where paddy has been allotted for milling.
Instructions have been given to implement strict police posts in all border districts to prevent illegal entry of paddy from other states.
The Chief Minister directed the district administration officials to visit the mandis regularly and talk to the farmers. Physical verification of paddy allotted to rice mills should be done from time to time.
