President Drupadi Murmu rode the Delhi Metro on Wednesday and interacted with school students. This is Murmu’s first time taking the subway after taking office as president.

Murmu is the second sitting president of India to travel on the Delhi Metro. In 2012, then President Pratibha Patil also rode the metro.

“President Droupadi Murmu traveled on the Delhi Metro and interacted with school children during the ride,” the Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a post on X.

President Murmu also launched a shuttle bus service between Central Secretariat Metro Station (Gate No. 4) and Amrit Udyan (Gate No. 35) for tourists coming to Amrit Udyan, which will operate every 30 minutes from 9.30 am to 5 pm Class one.

While interacting with the students on the train, Murmu inquired about their career plans, officials said.

They said she boarded the metro train at the Central Secretariat Metro station in the Kashmir Gate-Rajanahar Singh Purple Line corridor and headed towards Nehru Place Metro station and then returned to the Central Secretariat.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director Vikas Kumar accompanied the President on the trip.

The President uses NCMC (National Common Mobile Card) RuPay card to travel on this system.

The President made a comment in the visitors’ book, expressing his appreciation for the Delhi Metro and finding it a pleasant journey.

She said the Delhi Metro is considered one of the most modern and efficient public transport systems in the world today.

Murmu said the performance of Delhi Metro on all important parameters is world-class and a matter of pride for the country.
