“President of India Smt. Draupadi Murmu will visit Ambala, Haryana tomorrow where she will fly in Rafale,” a statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday said.
On April 8, 2023, Murmu became the third president and second female head of state to fly in a Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft at Tezpur Air Force Station in Assam.
Former Presidents APJ Abdul Kalam and Pratibha Patil flew in Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft at Air Force Station, Lohegaon, near Pune on June 8, 2006 and November 25, 2009, respectively.

The Rafale fighter aircraft was formally inducted into the Indian Air Force in September 2020 at Air Force Station, Ambala. It is manufactured by French aerospace major Dassault Aviation.
On July 27, 2020, the first five Rafale aircraft from France were inducted into 17 Squadron, ‘Golden Arrows’.
The Rafale jets were used in Operation Sindoor, which was launched on May 7 to destroy at least nine terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. These attacks led to four days of intense clashes that ended with an agreement to cease military action on 10 May.
