Popular Odia film star and former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Akash Das Nayak joined the Bharatiya Janata Party at the party headquarters in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, Odisha BJP state president Manmohan Sar Mal was there too.

Ollywood superstar Akash Das Nayak on Saturday quit the Biju Janta Dal (BJD), expressing his dissatisfaction with the functioning of the party.

Akash Das Nayak said, “I joined BJD for the development of the people of Odisha, realization of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat and development of my constituency Korei. In 2019, I did not get the ticket but I worked honestly. I took this decision after working in BJD for 10 years. I took this decision on the advice of my supporters and seniors.”

Akash Das Nayak won a seat in the Korean Parliament in the 2014 elections with the BJD. He did not contest the 2019 polls and later the state government appointed him as the chairman of the ‘Mo Academy’ programme.

Odisha has 21 assembly constituencies.

Notably, in the 2014 Odisha Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJD) emerged as the dominant party, winning 20 out of 21 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won one seat.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJD) secured the maximum number of seats, followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress.

The BJD won 12 seats, followed by the BJP with 8 seats and the Congress with just one seat.

The Lok Sabha elections in Odisha, which consists of 21 constituencies, will be held in four phases. Voting dates are set for May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1.
