Poor people donated eggs for mosques in J&K.Auction sales hit record

An egg donated by a poor man for the construction of a mosque in a Kashmiri village has been auctioned for over Rs 2 lakh.

Reports say that after villagers in Sopore, Apple town, started collecting donations for the mosque in Marpora village, a poor man donated an egg to the mosque.

The mosque committee accepted the egg and, like other in-kind donations, put it up for auction.

This humble donation has become a major attraction for the villagers.

The eggs changed hands many times. After each auction, the buyer returns it for another auction to raise more money.

Locals said the egg was eventually purchased by a man for Rs 70,000. The total amount raised from repeated egg auctions was around Rs 2.20 lakh.

“We have completed the auction of the egg and raised Rs 2.26 lakh,” said a member of the mosque committee.
