Days after Poonam Pandey faked her own death, a Rs 100-crore defamation case was reportedly filed against the actress and her ex-husband Sam Bombay. According to Pinkvilla, the case was filed by Faizan Ansari. He accused Poonam Pandey of “downplaying the seriousness of cancer and manipulating the emotions and trust of millions” by faking his own death. He also reportedly urged authorities to arrest Pandey and her ex-husband.

Ansari also lodged an FIR with the Kanpur police commissioner. “Poonam Pandey and her husband Sam Bombay conspired to plan her death by mocking a serious disease like cancer. Poonam Pandey betrayed millions of Indians by orchestrating this stunt for personal publicity people and the entire Bollywood industry,” the FIR reads.

For the uninitiated, the news of Poonam Pandey’s ‘death’ was announced in a post shared on her official Instagram account on February 2. It is with deep sadness that we inform you that our beloved Poonam lost her life to cervical cancer. Every living thing that came into contact with her was treated with pure love and kindness. We ask for privacy during this sad time while we fondly remember everything she shared,” the post read.

However, a day later, the actress revealed in a video statement that she was still alive. She argued that the motivation for news of her death was to raise awareness of cervical cancer. The incident did not go down well with everyone, with several celebrities including Kangana Ranaut and Karan Kundra slamming the actress.

Later, the All India Film Workers Association also sought an FIR against the actress-model, calling her behavior “very wrong” and “unacceptable”. Film bodies have called for legal action not only against Poonam but also against her managers. They condemned the publicity stunt and argued that “no one in the film industry would stoop to this level”.
