The Election Commission has issued a notice to Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The TDP chief on Thursday received a notice for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during his campaign speech on March 31 when he allegedly called CM Jagan a “monster”, “animal”, “thief” and various Other offensive words.

According to a notification issued by the Chief Electoral Officer of Andhra Pradesh, Naidu has been given 48 hours to provide an explanation for the derogatory remarks made against the YSR Congress Party and its leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The notice was issued after complaints were lodged by Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) state general secretary Lella Appi Reddy and another individual.

According to the notification, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu reportedly used derogatory language and called Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy a monster, animal, thief and various other insults and insults during an election rally in Yemmiganur, Markapuram and Bapatla constituencies. Sexual language. Offensive terminology.

The Electoral Commission reviewed the speeches in question, which were delivered on a pen drive, and determined that they prima facie breached the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct.

The Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held on May 13, with counting of votes on June 4.

It is worth noting that the Andhra Pradesh Assembly consists of 175 seats and a party needs at least 88 seats to form the government.

In the 2014 assembly elections, the Liberal Democratic Party led by Chandrababu Naidu won with a majority of 102 seats. YSRCP led by Jagan Mohan Reddy won 67 seats. The BJP could win only four seats by contesting against two regional heavyweights.

In the 2019 assembly elections, the YSRCP won with an overwhelming majority of 151 seats, while the TDP secured only 23 seats.

Elections for the country’s 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases starting from April 19. The counting of votes for the Lok Sabha and Parliament will take place on June 4.
