Police taken away by bus after Madhya Pradesh poll duty overturned, 21 injured

Bettur, Madhya Pradesh:

A bus carrying 21 police and National Guard personnel overturned in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul district early this morning, injuring 21 police and National Guard personnel, an official said.

The accident occurred near Baretaghat on the Bhopal-Bettur highway when the soldiers were returning to their native Rajgarh district after performing election duties, the official said.

Police Station (SDOP) Shalini Paraste said the incident took place around 4 am.

“The incident took place in the bus carrying a total of 40 soldiers, including five policemen and remaining home guards, who were on their way to Rajgarh after completing election duty in Chhindwara,” she said.

Police officials said eight of the seriously injured persons are undergoing treatment at Betul District Hospital and those with minor injuries are undergoing treatment at Shahpur Hospital.

She said the incident occurred when the bus swerved to avoid a truck crossing its path.

Polling for the Chhindwara Lok Sabha seat was held on Friday.
