A Florida A man was drunk when his Corvette collided with another car going 135 mph, killing a 25-year-old woman. officials,
Dale James Drotar, 40, has been charged in connection with the fatal crash that occurred April 6 in Boynton Beach.
Drotar was driving nearly 100 mph above the speed limit when his 2019 Chevrolet Corvette struck a 2020 Toyota Camry with 25-year-old Natalie Pierre and another woman inside, according to the local outlet. cbs12 The report cited the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Police say that as the Camry attempted to turn left, the Corvette hit the car’s rear door with such force that Pierre, who was sitting in the area, was thrown from it along with his seat and door.
Pierre is killed in the accident and Drotar is seriously injured. The driver of the Camry walked away with minor injuries.
After the crash, local resident Adam Faveroux pulled Drotar from his burning car and pulled him 30 feet away from danger, CBS12 reports.
“I asked him if he was OK, and he said not OK. He was in a lot of pain,” Favreaus told the outlet.
Details from the arrest affidavit, shared by multiple local outlets, said Drotar was under the influence of alcohol and opioid pain medications. Police say a 200 milliliter bottle of Jack Daniel’s liquor containing a small amount of alcohol was found inside the Corvette.
According to blood test results, Drotar’s blood alcohol content immediately after the accident was 0.126 percent. This is 1.6 times the legal limit of 0.08 percent BAC. Drotar is also accused of having hydromorphone and morphine in his system.
Police say Drotar’s speed increased from 124 mph to 135 mph before the crash, causing braking half a second earlier.
Drotar faces charges of vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter, as well as four counts of reckless driving causing injury and property damage and DUI causing injury and property damage.
He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on Wednesday and made his first court appearance on Thursday. According to local outlets, he is being held on a $540,000 bond WPTV,
