Police release man arrested over east London crossbow attack

A man arrested over his involvement in two crossbow attacks in east London has been released, police said.

The 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday, but police confirmed on Tuesday that he had been released while investigations into the case continued.

Two people were attacked earlier this month. The first incident involved a 44-year-old woman who was hit in the head while crossing the road at Clifton House in Shoreditch on the evening of March 4.

The second incident occurred on the evening of March 14 near Arnold Circus, about 200m from the first attack, when a 20-year-old man was shot in the neck.

Police said Tuesday that both victims have been released from the hospital.

Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway, who oversees policing in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, said police had been examining CCTV, intelligence and forensic evidence.

He said: “This remains a complex and ongoing policing operation and the community will continue to see increased police presence in the area.”

“I would like to thank local people for their invaluable support and urge anyone who has not yet spoken to police to do so as soon as possible.”
