An Incheon Police Agency official was reportedly arrested on Thursday, March 21, for mishandling information regarding the investigation of late actor Lee Sun-kyun.
According to investigating authorities, the Anti-Corruption Crime Investigation Team of the Southern Gyeonggi Police Agency arrested a senior police official that day.
The official was responsible for leaking documents related to the investigation into Lee’s death to other sources.
Lee is best known for his stellar role in the 2019 Oscar-winning film Parasitecommitted suicide on December 27, 2023, during an ongoing investigation into illegal drug use.
Director Bong Joon-ho and professionals are determined to find out “whether any unauthorized disclosures or inappropriate reactions occurred during the investigation.”
Lee’s name hit the headlines shortly after police began investigating last October.
The actor, who was still alive at the time, completed three rounds of police interrogations between October and December 2023.
The final round of questions lasted about nineteen hours, three days before the actor’s death.
The documents leaked to third parties also include dates when Lee appeared before police and photos of the actor at the Incheon Police Station.
