ISIS Indian leader and key aide arrested in major operation in Dhubri, Assam

In a breakthrough today, the Assam Police Special Task Force (STF) arrested ISIS Indian leader Haris Farooqi and one of his associates for illegally entering Assam from neighboring Bangladesh Bundubri was later placed on the National Bureau of Investigation’s wanted list.

STF sources told NDTV that agencies received information that two Indian ISIS members camping in the neighboring country were going to cross the border to India’s Dhubri district to carry out sabotage activities.

Last night, a special task force team led by Inspector General of Police Parthasarathi Mahanta set out to arrest the duo. The team received credible information and launched a hunt in an area close to the international border with India and Bangladesh. In the early morning, the task force successfully nabbed the terrorists in Dhubri Damasala area.

“They furthered the growth of ISIS in India by conspiring to recruit, finance terror activities and use improvised explosive devices to carry out terror activities across India,” the statement said. The police official said the NIA, Delhi, ATS and LKK Several cases are pending against them in Nau and other places.

“The Assam STF will hand over the accused to the NIA for further legal action against them,” police said.
