Senior probe agency 'spread too thin', Justice DY Chandrachud warns

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud today said the country’s main investigative agencies are too fragmented and they must focus only on cases involving national security and crimes against the state. Justice Chandrachud, while delivering the 20th DP Kohli Memorial Lecture on the CBI fundraising day, also pointed out how technology has transformed the criminal sector and the agency now faces complex challenges.

Justice Chandrachud said: “There are increasing demands on the CBI to delve into various criminal cases beyond its role as an anti-corruption investigation agency. This places a huge responsibility on the CBI to live up to its motto.”

The chief justice added: “The main investigative agencies are too fragmented. They must focus only on those cases involving national security and crimes against the economy of the country.”
