Prime Minister Narendra Modi today unveiled development projects worth Rs 17,500 crore in Assam.
The prime minister unveiled projects to strengthen the health, oil and gas, railways and housing sectors at an event in Jorhat.
He laid the foundation for projects under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East (PM-DevINE) programme. These projects include the Medical College and Hospital in Sivasagar and the Hemo-Lymph Center in Guwahati.
He also laid the foundation for the expansion of Digboi refinery capacity from 0.65 mmtpa to 1 mmtpa and Guwahati refinery from 1.0 mmtpa to 1.2 mmtpa.
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the 718-km-long Barauni-Guwahati Pipeline at Tinsukia, which cost around Rs 3,992 crore.
He also inaugurated around 550,000 houses under the leadership of Prime Minister Awas Yojana-Gramin, which were built at a cost of approximately Rs 8,450 crore.
The Prime Minister also launched railway projects worth over Rs 1,300 crore in the state. These include the Dhupdhara-Chhaygaon section of the New Bongaigaon-Guwahati via Goalpara double-tracking project and the New Bongaigaon-Sorbhog section of the New Bongaigaon-Agthori double-tracking project.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were present at the event.
