According to the Air Traffic Control (ATC), the aircraft left from Ahmedabad on runway 23 to 1339 IST (0809 UTC). It called the ATC on an May 1, but after that, the aircraft did not respond to the call made by the ATC.
Soon after departing on runway 23, the aircraft crashed outside the circumference of the airport. An official said that heavy black smoke was coming from the accident site.
On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah met Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and received detailed information about the entire incident.
Shah said that there was no chance to save anyone in the London-Bound Air India aircraft accident due to high temperatures due to the burning of about 1.25 lakh liters of fuel in the aircraft.
Expressing condolences to the family members of those killed, Shah said that the exact number of deaths would be officially released only after DNA tests. Shah revealed that about 1000 DNA tests have been done so far.
The Home Minister told the media, “The aircraft took about 125,000 liters of fuel, and due to high temperatures, there was no chance to save anyone … I visited the accident site.”
“In just 10 minutes of the incident, we came to know. After that, I informed the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, the Control Room of the Home Department, the Civil Aviation Department and the Minister of Civil Aviation.
