PM Modi laid foundation stone of 3 semiconductor facilities today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the ‘Techade India: Viksit Bharat Chips’ event today to lay the foundation for three semiconductor projects worth nearly Rs 125 crore.

“The Prime Minister’s vision is to position India as a global hub for semiconductor design, manufacturing and technology development and promote job creation for the youth of the country. In line with this vision, we are laying the foundation stone of a semiconductor manufacturing facility in the Dholela Special Investment Region (DSIR) in Gujarat , Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility at Morigaon, Assam and Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility at Sanand, Gujarat.” read.

The fabrication (fab) facility of DSIR will be set up by Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) under a modified scheme for setting up semiconductor factories in India. With a total investment of over Rs 91,000 crore, this will be the country’s first commercial semiconductor factory.

The Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Morigaon, Assam will be set up by Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) under the Semiconductor Assembly, Test, Marking and Packaging Modification Program (ATMP) with a total investment of approximately Rs 27,000 rupee.

“The Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility at Sanand will be set up by CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited under the Semiconductor Assembly, Test, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) modified scheme with a total investment of approximately Rs 7,500 crore,” it added.

These facilities will strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem and give it a strong foothold in India. These units will also employ thousands of people and promote job creation in electronics, telecommunications and other related industries.

The program will attract significant participation from young people, including thousands of college students and semiconductor industry leaders.
