Philipson and Powell arrive at the second phase of the deputy leadership race

Web Desk, 12/09/2025

Race to be successful Angela Rener As Labor Party Deputy Leader A head-to-head fight has become a fight between the education secretary Bridget Philipson And east Common leader Lucy Powell.

First stage of Competition On Thursday evening, there are only two candidates with a close, Ms. Philipson and Ms. Powell, who are reaching the required limit of 80 nominations from fellow Labor MPs.

Ms. Philipson became the first time to reach the required number of enrollment on Wednesday night with 116 nomination.

He continued to enroll after a virtual husting on Wednesday evening, and ended with 175 nominations.

Meanwhile, Ms. Powell, who was excluded in the reshuffle in the government of the last week, received 77 out of the 80 required on Wednesday to 77. She has now reached the threshold and has raised 117 nominations.

The strong performance of the East-Common Leader poured cold water on initial speculation that Ms. Philipson may be the only candidate to make it in the final stage of the race.

The possibility of contesting an election threatened to oversee Labor’s annual conference in Liverpool in late September, some saw it as a referendum on the Prime Minister’s leadership amid the growing concern towards the government and demolished the approval rating.

But neither Ms. Philipson, a Cabinet Minister, nor Ms. Powell is openly critical of Sir. Kir StamorWhile other candidates have clearly called to change the direction.

Despite being dismissed by Sir Keer last week, Ms. Powell said that she was “proud” to serve in the government while announcing her candidature, while Ms. Philipson said she would “unite the party, fight for reform, and distribute to our country”.

Commons Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Dame on Thursday Emily Thornberry Saying this, it was out of the race that “participating in this race with such magnificent women is a privilege”. He had raised only 13 nominations till Wednesday night.

Paula Barker also got out of the race, which gave her support Lucy Powell,

He said: “The next deputy leader should hear the concerns of every part of our party and should not be afraid to bring those challenges into the government.

“Being a good team does not mean that we cannot be honest, the government’s criticism, when it is creative, makes us strong.”

A day earlier, the sixth candidate Ellison was out of the McGawn race and supported Ms. Philipson, stating that “the pace of the competition had moved”.

On the left side of the party, Bell Rebero-AD sat third on 15 nominations on Wednesday, but made it 24 only before the deadline of 5 pm on Thursday.

The successful candidate will replace Ms. Rener as Deputy Labor Leader, but not as Deputy Prime Minister, a post that has been assigned to justice secretary David Lammi.

The competition began after Ms. Rener resigned in the last weekend, after an independent investigation, it was found that she did not meet the ethical standards required for the government ministers recently on the purchase of a house.

The MP for Ashton-Ender-Lin, who admitted last week, did not pay enough tax on his purchase in an apartment. Hove Prior to this summer, the report found that he had worked in good faith, but he was sought more specific tax advice.
