Petrol and diesel prices on January 28: Even as crude oil prices rose for the second consecutive week and hit their highest level in nearly two months on Friday, petrol and diesel prices in India remained largely unchanged on Sunday. According to government oil companies, in Gautam Buddha Nagar district (Noida-Greater Noida) of Uttar Pradesh, the price this morning was Rs 96.79 per liter, while diesel is being sold at Rs 89.96 per liter. In Chandigarh, petrol and diesel prices remained the same at Rs 96.20 and Rs 84.26 per liter respectively.

In Lucknow, petrol prices stood at Rs 96.57 per liter and diesel prices at Rs 89.76 per litre. In Gurugram, the price was Rs 97.18 per liter and diesel increased by 33 paise to Rs 90.05.

At present, petrol is being sold at Rs 96.72 per liter and diesel at Rs 89.62 per liter in Delhi. Whereas in Mumbai petrol is available at Rs 106.31 and diesel at Rs 94.27 per litre. Whereas in Kolkata petrol is Rs 106.03 and diesel is Rs 92.76 per liter. Whereas in Chennai petrol is being sold at Rs 102.63 and diesel at Rs 94.24 per litre.

In India, oil marketing companies (OMCs) such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum set the prices of petrol and diesel. This is done on a daily basis, and the rates are set according to the price of crude oil around the world.

Oil prices rose for a second straight week and hit their highest level in nearly two months on Friday as signs of positive US economic growth and Chinese stimulus boosted demand expectations, while Middle East supply concerns boosted support.

Brent crude futures rose $1.12, or 1.4 percent, at $83.55 a barrel, the highest since Nov. 30. US West Texas Intermediate crude (WTI) rose 65 cents, or 0.8 percent, to $78.01, its highest level since November.

Both benchmarks posted weekly gains of more than 6%, their biggest weekly gains since the week ended October 13, following the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza.
