People to legally change their names facing delay in Ontario

A Toronto female serviceontario reached the speaker corner to share her experience with a delay.

College student 19 -year -old Elisha said, “It’s just disappointment that a package is not able to take or you know, buy something in Apple and not a proper ID to take it.”

Elisha is waiting to apply for an identity card until her last name is approved through servicontario until her last name is legally changed.

“I presented the name change request around 7 April, and it came to the office at Thunder Bay on 15 April, and since then, I have been waiting,” he said.

According to serviceontario WebsiteName change requests may take up to 12 weeks. Elisha said that it has become very long in her experience, recently calling a representative that it may take up to 19 weeks.

“I could understand that if I had a criminal record or something else, but my application is very straightforward, I can’t just see why something like this would happen.” “The process is that you submit an application and then pay a fee to process your application, but I have not yet reached that point, they just ‘sorry, delayed.”

Elisha is far from alone. Name change request delay is a frequent and recent subject on social media sites like Reddit, in which contributors share the same stories.

“The fact is that it is really sad that the name change also takes such a long time, but also once approved, I can wait for an additional four to six weeks to get an ID. So when does it stop?”

All name change applications are processed through an office in Ontario, the office of the Registrar General in Thunder Bay. While a representative did not say what could be behind the delay. They say they are working on a solution.

,A spokesperson told Citynues, “Serviceontario is constantly working to address any increased versions of applications and seek ways to reduce processing time.

“For immediate requests, customers can contact the serviceObantario on 1-800-461-2156 or 416-325-8305 and can present their evidence of the request for review,” said a spokesman said.

Speaker Corner inquired about Elisha’s case and while the spokes could not comment due to the concerns of privacy, a representative reached her after contacting.

“He now told me by next week that my application should be processed,” he told Citynuse in a follow -up email.
