Srinagar, May 31, KDC: Jammu and Anti -Kashmir Bureau of Corruption (ACB) on Saturday arrested a Patwari from Anantnag district when he was caught red hand accepting a bribe of ₹ 10,000.
According to an official spokesperson, ACB received a written complaint from a resident of Lukbhavan, Larkipora, Tehsil Doru, alleging that a patwari had demanded bribe in exchange for a favorable report related to the branches of sorting of the tree near the complainant.
The complainant submitted an application to the Tehsil Office Doru, requesting action on the branches of the tree, which posed a threat to life and property due to strong winds. The application was later sent to the concerned Patwari for verification. However, when contacted, Patwari allegedly demanded ₹ 10,000 to release the report.
Choosing not to pay bribe, the complainant approached ACB with evidence of demand. After prudent verification that confirmed the bribery attempt, ACB filed an FIR (number 01/2025) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at ACB Police Station Anantnag.
A trap team was formed and a successful trap was laid. The accused Patwari was caught in the Act while receiving the bribe money. He was immediately arrested, and in the presence of independent witnesses, the entire bribe amount was recovered from his possession.
After the arrest, a discovery was also made at the residence of the accused in the presence of Executive Magistrates and Independent Witnesses.
