A passenger claims she was kicked off a WestJet flight in Mexico for excessively using the bathroom before takeoff. In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), user @joannachiu revealed that airline staff removed her from the flight after “an upset stomach” caused her to go to the bathroom multiple times. The incident occurred earlier this month. “If you get sick before a flight, suck it up…” the X user warned potential passengers in her post.

“Just took off a @WestJet flight from Mexico because I had an upset stomach and went to the bathroom too many times before takeoff. No hotel commitments or rebooking flights. I took meds and am getting better. Some customer service,” Joanna Chiu said in her wrote in the post.

In a subsequent tweet, Ms Chiu claimed the airline “refused” to pay her taxi fare to the hotel when she accidentally left money on the plane in her rush to leave. Later, when WestJet supervisors at the airport began to give her a hard time, she “broke down in tears.”

“As I rushed to get off the plane alone, I left my money with my travel companions and @WestJet
The supervisor refused to pay for my taxi ride to the hotel 20 minutes away. He called a guard to intimidate me, but as I burst into tears, the guard correctly assumed that the WestJet guy was an asshole,” she wrote.

Chiu said she filmed the conversation with the security guard, but claimed a WestJet supervisor said she would not be able to attend the next day’s flight if she did not delete the video. “I asked another employee to help me,” she wrote. “She was much nicer but refused to provide me with a booking reference to rebook my flight. She told me to come back to the airport tomorrow and ask at the counter,” she added.

Ms. Qiu noted that she was frustrated that she couldn’t get any help without opening up about her experience. She claims the airline only sent her the booking reference number directly after she called it out on social media, rather than providing it to her when she sought customer support at the airport.

“Unfortunately, I couldn’t get any help unless I publicly posted about my experience. After I asked repeatedly at the airport, WestJet private messaged me my booking reference number. I ended up getting into a taxi because I had Reason to fear arrest,” Ms Chiu wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, other X users were outraged at the way Air Canada treated her. “What the hell! How many times do you have to go to the bathroom to take your boots off?” one user wrote. “This is outrageous. That’s what ship toilets are for!” said another.

However, some people think that the crew’s actions were just. “It sounds like this issue may result in passengers needing to occupy the bathroom for the entire return flight, or sometimes while ‘seated’. [required] for safety. The call was good, but the communication was poor. ” one user commented.
