Islamabad:
Bushra Bibi, who was sentenced to 14 years in prison in the Toshakana reference case, has been shifted to Bani Gala, her husband Imran Khan’s residence in Islamabad, ARY News reported (Bani Gala), the residence was designated as a sub-prison.
The former first lady voluntarily surrendered before the accountability court at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team detained her. The Chief Commissioner Islamabad issued a notification declaring the residence of Banigala inmate Bushra Bibi as a sub-jail until further orders.
“The Chief Commissioner of Islamabad Capital Territory is pleased to declare the residence of inmate Bushra Bibi (Mohra Noor Khan House Banigala Residential Complex, Islamabad) as a sub-jail until further orders,” the notice said.
Strict security arrangements have been put in place and jail staff will be stationed inside Banigala while Islamabad police personnel will remain outside Imran Khan’s residence, ARY News reported quoting sources.
In the Toshakana case, the accountability court sentenced Imran Khan and his wife to 14 years in prison.
The court not only imposed a harsh prison sentence but also disqualified Khan from holding any public office for the next 10 years. As part of the verdict, the couple was fined PKR 1.573 billion.
The Toshakana case has become a major point of contention in national politics after the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified it last year for making “false and incorrect statements,” ARY News reported.
