Parker vs. Wardley live: fight results after stunning heavyweight knockout

Fabio Wardle showed a new side to his game when he dethroned Joseph Parker as the number one contender in the heavyweight division. Sports editor Jack Rathbourne reports from ringside at the O2 Arena.

Frank Warren asked what the plan was for Wardley.

“It’s really simple. Oleksandr is a great champion, he said he wants to fight. He won’t vacate the belt. His next fight with Fabio Wardley will be for all the belts.

“This is what (Wardley) deserves. We’re all proud of him.”

Wardley asked how he survived some of Parker’s shots.

He explains: “What I lack in experience I make up for in chin, heart, determination and willpower.”

Wardley adds: “Look, I said throughout this whole thing, even before this fight started, when we picked Joseph Parker, I believed I was on top – I proved I was on top.”

Fabio Wardley’s mind has already turned to his next opponent.

Thomas Treiber makes it official – Fabio Wardley remains undefeated, and is now the WBO interim heavyweight champion of the world.

More importantly, he is the mandatory challenger for Oleksandr Usyk’s undisputed title.

Joseph Parker was ahead 98–92 and 96–94 on the two judges’ scorecards – while the others were level at 95–95.

Fabio Wardley needed that stoppage, and once again, he’s got it.

Literally smelling blood, Wardley throws punch after punch – and Parker has no reaction. Ultimately the referee had to intervene.
