The US last week designated China, North Korea and Pakistan as “countries of particular concern” for engaging in and tolerating “particularly serious violations of religious freedom”.

Asserting that Pakistan is not a country of concern and should be constructively engaged, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakkar on Wednesday urged US President Joe Biden to consider its role in regional and global affairs as the need of the hour. I requested to accept.

Kakkar is in Davos to attend the annual World Economic Forum (WEF) summit. He was speaking with CNBC in an interview on the sidelines of the summit.

Asked what would be Pakistan’s message to the Biden administration ahead of the February 8 elections, the Prime Minister said: Pakistan is a country of results, not a country of worries, so we should engage Pakistan constructively. He said that Pakistan is a medium-sized power and its real potential and role should be appreciated.

The News International newspaper quoted Kakar as saying that it is the need of the hour to recognize Pakistan’s role, be it in the region or on the global stage.

The caretaker prime minister’s statement came a day after two hideouts of Balochi militant group Jaish al-Adal in the border town of Panjgur in Balochistan province in Pakistan were targeted by Iranian missiles and drones.

Responding to a question, the acting Prime Minister stressed the need for a regional approach to deal with the challenge of terrorism.

Asked about relations with China, Kakar said Pakistan has strategically close ties with Beijing.

He said that whatever happens in the region or elsewhere cannot affect Pakistan’s relations with China, the report said.
