Jodhpur, Oct 27 (IANS) An incident of murder has been reported from Mata Ka Than police station area of Jodhpur city, an official said on Monday, adding that the deceased has been identified as a 20-year-old youth whose family had migrated from Pakistan about two decades ago.
Mahadev Nagar resident Vijay Kumar was found dead under suspicious circumstances inside his house on Monday morning. According to the police, a cloth was stuffed in the youth’s mouth and his hands and legs were tied from behind with a rope.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the crime took place on Sunday night when Vijay was alone at home.
Authorities suspect the involvement of close relatives or an acquaintance of the victim. ADCP East Virendra Singh, ACP Mandore Nagendra Kumar and FSL team reached the spot and collected evidence.
Police said Vijay worked as a car mechanic and usually returned home around 10 pm
However, on Sunday, he came home unusually early at 8 pm. When he did not respond to phone calls the next morning, his relatives and neighbors went to check on him and found his dead body inside the house.
Neighbor Kanhaiyalal told the police that Vijay’s family had come from Pakistan about 20 years ago and since then they had got Indian citizenship. The family was currently in Phalodi, while Vijay lived alone.
He said there were signs of dragging and struggle inside the house, which suggested that Vijay had tried to fight off his attackers.
When relatives could not reach them over the phone, a neighbor visited the house and found the family dog outside while the horrifying scene was discovered inside. The police have kept the body in the mortuary of Mahatma Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem.
Officials said the investigation has become challenging due to the limited number of CCTV cameras in the area. The matter has also become sensitive because the deceased had recently got engaged.
Police have started questioning family members, relatives and acquaintances to identify the suspects and find out the motive behind the murder.
