Two Pakistani terrorists shot dead a government employee in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri in a targeted attack on Monday evening, police said, adding that a case has been registered under anti-terrorism laws.

Mohammad Razaq, a social welfare department employee, was shot outside his house in Shahdara Sharif of the district. He died of his injuries in a hospital.

His brother, a soldier in the Territorial Army, was also with him when the terrorists opened fire. They tried to kidnap him but he managed to escape safely, a senior officer said.

According to the police, the terrorists used American-made M4 rifles and pistols in the attack. “We have recovered bullets from the M4 rifle used in the attack. A joint cordon and search operation has been launched by the army and police to nab the attackers, a senior police officer said.

The attack came after two non-locals were targeted in Anantnag and Harpora areas of Shopian district. Just a week after terrorists shot dead a resident of Dehradun in South Kashmir’s Harpora, terrorists shot dead a migrant worker from Bihar in a targeted attack in Anantnag on Wednesday.

Last year, Rajouri and Poonch region witnessed a series of terrorist attacks in which 20 army personnel were killed. Following the attacks, the Army deployed at least three more brigades in the area to deter attacks and protect the strategically important area bordering Pakistan.

Both the areas are part of Anantnag constituency which will go to polls on May 7.
