Deposed Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina A man was sentenced to 21 years in jail on Thursday in three cases of corruption related to land allotment in a government project.
He was sentenced to death earlier this month for crimes against humanity, including a crackdown on the mass uprising that ended his 15-year rule last year. he is in exile IndiaAnd all trials have been conducted in absentia.
In three of the judgements, Hasina was found guilty of illegally acquiring plots in the Purvanchal New Town project for herself and her family despite her disqualification.
Each sentence was seven years’ imprisonment, and Dhaka Special court judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun said that Hasina will have to serve him continuously.
His son Sajib Wajed and daughter Saima Wajed were sentenced to five years in prison in one of the three cases.
Other details of the decision were not immediately available.
Hasina and her former ruling Awami League party have condemned the cases against her. She did not appoint a defense lawyer and global human rights groups have questioned the credibility and fairness of the trial process against Hasina.
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed three cases against Hasina, her son and daughter and others following her removal. Other cases also involve a land project, and another ruling in a separate case is expected on December 1.
