OnePlus may launch a flip phone with flagship camera capabilities

OnePlus may be working on a foldable flip phone that could feature cameras commonly seen on flagship smartphones. Oppo and OnePlus may launch new smartphones with telephoto and macro cameras, according to details shared by a Chinese source. While the former has already released a clamshell foldable phone with these camera features, OnePlus may launch a similar phone to compete with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip phone as well as Motorola’s Razr foldable phone.

An informant with the username “Smart Pikachu” (Chinese translation) claim In a Weibo post, Oppo is working on a smartphone with telephoto and macro cameras. The source also said that OnePlus’ flagship smartphone will also come with the same camera features. The companies have yet to announce plans for a new clamshell foldable phone.

OnePlus has only launched one foldable phone so far – the OnePlus Open. This is a rebranded version of the Oppo Find N3. If Oppo decides to launch the Find N5 Flip, said to be the successor to the Find N3 Flip, OnePlus may also launch a clamshell foldable phone with similar specifications. This phone can compete with phones from Motorola or Samsung.

The Oppo Find N3 Flip was launched in India in October last year and runs Android 13-based ColorOS 13 out of the box. The phone is powered by a 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chip and comes with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB UFS 4.0 built-in storage. It comes with a 6.8-inch LTPO AMOLED inner screen and a 3.26-inch AMOLED cover display.

The Find N3 Flip is also the first (and currently the only) clamshell foldable phone to feature a triple rear camera setup, which includes a 50-megapixel main camera, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 332-megapixel telephoto camera. The phone also has a 4,300mAh battery that supports 44W SuperVOOC charging.
