Chamoli (Uttarakhand), October 28 (IANS). Women facing violence in Chamoli are receiving assistance through the One-Stop Center (OSC) scheme, a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Known locally as ‘Sakhi Centre’, OSC provides comprehensive support to women affected by domestic violence, gender-based violence and dowry harassment.

Women often face discrimination and abuse at home, workplace or society because of their gender. From honor killings and dowry harassment to acid attacks and gender-based abortions, these incidents highlight the urgent need for dedicated support systems. The One-Stop Center scheme, launched in April 2015, aims to protect women from such abuse and empower them to stand firm against violence.

The scheme provides legal, medical and psychological counseling to women who are victims of physical, emotional, mental or sexual abuse. It is designed to provide immediate and comprehensive support to women facing violence in any environment.

Rashmi Rawat, center administrator of Chamoli OSC in Gopeshwar, said that the program has been running in the district since 2019 and so far more than 350 women have benefited.

He said that the center provides emergency rescue services as soon as a complaint is received. In collaboration with 108 emergency services, PCR units and the National Health Mission, OSC ensures that the victim is safely transported to the nearest hospital or shelter home.

These centers are available in every district of India. Victims can contact through District Women and Child Development Officers, Anganwadi workers or District Program Officers. Apart from this, women can also lodge complaints through the helpline number 181, available 24 hours for immediate assistance.

“Our goal is to provide prompt assistance to women in distress, ensuring their safety and access to legal and medical aid,” said Rashmi Rawat, OSC Administrator.

“We guide women through the legal processes and help them understand their rights. Early intervention can make a significant difference in their lives,” said Rajni, a legal advisor at the centre.

The One-Stop Center scheme has become a lifeline for women in Chamoli, providing them safety, support and hope against violence and discrimination.
