An explosion rocked the command post of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) at the Qalso military base 30 miles south of Baghdad, killing one member and injuring eight others, a military statement said on Saturday.

The military said in a statement that no drones or fighter jets were sighted over the Babylon area before or during the blast, but two security sources told Reuters the explosion was caused by an airstrike.

The PMF began as a group of armed factions, many with close ties to Iran, and was later recognized by Iraqi authorities as a formal security force.

Meanwhile, sources said Israel launched an attack on Iranian territory on Friday, days after Iran attacked Israel with drones and missiles.
