“Sunset Boulevard” dominated Sunday night’s star-studded ceremony at the Olivier Awards, winning seven of 11 nominations.
The musical’s wins include Best Actor and Best Actress in a Musical wins for its star Tom Francis and former Pussycat Dolls and Britain’s Got Talent judge Nicole Scherzinger.
The Best Actor award went to former “Sherlock” and “Game of Thrones” actor Mark Gatiss for his performance in Jack Thorne’s “Motives and Clues.”
Set in 1964, the play follows Richard Burton’s Broadway version of Hamlet and his intense backstage interactions with director John Gielgud.
“Succession” star Sarah Snook beat fellow nominee “Sex and the City” star Sarah Jessica Parker to win the award for her West End debut in “The Picture of Dorian Gray.” Best Actress Award.
Parker was nominated for starring opposite husband Matthew Broderick in the comedy “Plaza Suite.”
“Fleabag” actor Andrew Scott missed out on the Best Actor award, but his nominated TV adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s “Vanya” won the Cunard Award for Best Revival.
Last year’s Special Mention winner Arlene Phillips once again joins James Cousins in Guys & Dolls at the Bridge Theater to accept Gillian Lynne Gillian Lynne Award for Best Theater Choreography.
Emmy winner and multiple Olivier Award nominee Hannah Waddingham hosted the ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall, with singer-songwriter Joe Stilgoe ) opened the show with a performance of “Anything Goes,” accompanied by the London Community Gospel Choir.
